· Provide the IPB and the national crop improvement programs a broad range of genetic resources for breeding superior crop varieties
· Help minimize the rapid erosion of the natural variability existing in our cultivated species and their wild relatives

· To conserve for national posterity the endemic and introduced PGR
· To provide plant breeding projects in the national research system with broad genetic base for crop improvement
· To monitor and coordinate national efforts in the collection, conservation, utilization and exchange of PGR
